On November 27, 2024, California’s Office of Historic Preservation mailed a meeting notice to a subset of the property owners within Santa Barbara’s Lower Riviera Special Design District.
The letter was to inform the homeowners that the State Historical Resources Commission would consider and take action on the nomination of their properties as a historic district to the National Register of Historic Places.
No effort has ever been made to determine if the affected homeowners actually want to be in a historic district. The purpose of this site is to determine whether or not this is actually the case.
There is some urgency to this effort. If it turns out that the nomination is not supported by the majority of homeowners, each opposing owner must provide an affidavit indicating their opposition to the commission. Otherwise, their support is assumed and the nomination will almost certainly be approved.
